Al Wefaq National Islamic Society strongly condemns the death sentences handed by the Bahraini courts to two dissidents while five others were sentenced to life, all with political cases that lacked standards of a fair trial. Al Wefaq stressed that such cases need a neutral and independent investigation.
These sentences reflect the core of the regime that is ruling with an iron fist and disenfranchising the people of their rights. The silence of international community, and specifically the regime’s friends, is considered a satisfaction towards the ongoing human rights violations in Bahrain.
The sentences also came on the eve of the arrest of Sheikh Ali Salman, Al Wefaq’s Secretary General, demonstrating the regime’s recklessness by going for crazy measures taking advantage of the international community’s silence.
