Shiite pilgrims in the Iraqi holy city of Karbala showed their support for the senior Saudi Shiite cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr by signing a petition against the execution of this cleric.
Shiite pilgrims travelling to Karbala to participate in Arbaeen mourning ceremony took part in a petition campaign established on the road to Karbala to gather one million signatures against Saudi decision to execute Sheikh Nimr.
The cleric was recently sentenced to death on the charge of disturbing Saudi Arabia's security, giving anti-regime speeches, insulting King Abdullah in Friday Prayers sermons, and defending the political prisoners.
Pilgrims have turned this Arbaeen to a scene to voice their support for Shiekh Nimr by carrying placards, launching campaigns, and showing pictures of the Shiite cleric.
Each year on Arbaeen, pilgrims travel long routes on foot to the holy city of Karbala, where the tomb of Imam Hussein (AS) is located.
