The Liberties and Human Rights Department in Al Wefaq National Islamic Society confirmed reports about a number of home raids carried out by Bahrain security forces on Wednesday 12th November, early morning hours. A number of citizens were arrested during the raids, including relatives of martyrs, whilst 6 women were called in to appear at the Central Investigations Department (CID).
The LHRD outlines that the arrests are arbitrary and violate fundamental rights such as to be informed of the charges and reasons of arrest.
The arrested citizens were put incommunicado and have not been allowed to call their families or lawyers about the charges being prepared for them while they are behind bars.
The LHRD in Al Wefaq stresses that these arrests are considered arbitrary by the constitution and international law and the arrested citizens must be released. Such arrests have usually been based on the citizens’ exercise of political and civil rights relating to freedom of expression.
