A Shia leader shot martyred near Shikarpur
A shutdown was observed in Khanpur town of Shikarpur district on Wednesday following the killing of a local leader of the Shia Ulema Action Committee allegedly on sectarian grounds.
Maulana Shafqat Abbas Mutaheri was shot dead by two armed men riding a motorcycle on Indus Highway near Khanpur. The victim was also riding a motorcycle and was on his way to the town when attacked, officials at the Khanpur police station said.
The attack triggered protest by SUAC activists and other residents of Khanpur.
Led by Dr Asghar, Syed Wajid Ali Shah and others, the protesters demanded immediate arrest of the killers.
The protesters held a demonstration in the middle of the Khanpur section of the Indus Highway disrupting intercity traffic for some time.

Two Shia killed in Quetta
At least five people, including a Hindu vendor and a teenage boy, were killed while two others were critically wounded when unknown armed assailants opened fire at multiple shops on Usman Road in Balochi Street of Quetta on Wednesday evening.
According to an official of Gawalmandi police station, masked men on motorbikes opened fire at a barber shop, a tailor shop, and a Hindu vendor in downtown Quetta.
“The attackers barged into the shops and opened fire from very close range,” said Ghulam Yassen, a barber who sustained leg injuries. “They went to other shops and opened fire.”
While four people died on the spot, three others were wounded. The attackers managed to flee from the scene after the attack.“Four dead bodies and three injured were brought to the hospital,” said Mohammed Jaffar, the Medico Legal Officer (MLO) at Provincial Sandeman Hospital, Quetta told reporters.
“The victims were shot in head. One injured succumbed to his injures at hospital while another is in a critical condition.”The dead were identified Sunil Jani (the Hindu vendor), Khalid Bila, Irfan and two Shia boys Shakir Ali son of Muhammad Iqbal, aged 16-years, and Naveed Hussain s/o Mumtaz Jafri, aged 22-years.
Three Shia martyred in Charsadha
In Charsadha, 3 Shia Muslims including a senior Shia citizen Syed Johar shah, aged 70-years, were also shot martyred.
Syed Johar Bacha, who belonged to the influential Sadaat family, was killed and two other persons were injured when unknown assailants opened indiscriminate fire on them at the shrine of Mian Syed Noor Baba at Prang Graveyard here on Wednesday.
Syed Ayaz Bacha, son of the slain Johar Bacha, reported to Prang police that his father was present at the shrine when unknown assailants opened fire on him. As a result, he was killed on the spot, while two other persons identified as Gharib Jan of Marchakay and Sajjad of Hassankhel received injuries. The motive behind the killing was yet to be ascertained. The body and injured were taken to DHQ hospital, Charsadda. The police have registered an FIR against unknown attackers.
Johar Bacha was the son of Fazal Haq of Babra, Charsadda. A large number of people of the area reached the hospital soon after the incident.
