A Shiite Hawker killed in terrorist attack in Karachi

A Shi'ite newspaper hawker was shot dead in a suspected sectarian attack in Joharabad of Karachi on Sunday, police said.

KARACHI, Pakistan - A Shi'ite newspaper hawker was shot dead in a suspected sectarian attack in Joharabad on Sunday, police said.

They added that 56-year-old Syed Ali Abbas Abedi s/o Syed Ikhlaq Hussain abedi, was sitting at his news-stand at the Water Pump traffic intersection near the Mamu Kabab House in Block-14, F.B Area, when armed motorcyclists of notorious militants of Sipah-e-Sahaba (ASWJ) attacked him.

He sustained critical wounds and was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. The victim was a resident of Ancholi.

“The murder may have been carried out on faith grounds,” Joharabad SHO Rashid Hussain said.

Funeral prayer was held at Imam Bargah Shohda-e-Karbala after noon prayers and later the coffin containing martyr was taken in procession to Wadi-e-Hussain (A) graveyard for interment.

Shia parties and leaders have condemned the targeted murder of another Shia Muslim in Karachi. They demanded action against the takfiri terrorists and their public hanging. They also demanded military operation to eliminate the terrorists.
