Top Bahraini Shia Cleric: Gaza's Victory over Zionist Regime Came from Resistance

Bahrain's leading Shia cleric Ayatollah Sheikh Issa Qassem said Gaza achieved victory over the Zionist regime through resistance.

Bahrain's leading Shia cleric Ayatollah Sheikh Issa Qassim said Gaza achieved victory over the Zionist regime through resistance.

Addressing Friday prayers worshipers in Bahrain's capital of Manama, Ayatollah Qassim praised the fortitude and steadfastness of the Palestinian people and resistance groups, al-Wasat daily reported.

He added that the victory of Gaza resistance will force Tel Aviv to think twice about any future decision to launch another aggression.

The senior cleric noted that by launching attacks against Gaza, the Zionist regime sought to end the resistance of Palestinians but failed.

Elsewhere in his sermon, Ayatollah Qassem condemned last week's attack on a mosque in the Iraqi province of Diyala in which 40 Sunni worshippers were killed.

He rejected allegations that Shias were involved in the attack and underlined that such actions clearly run counter to the teachings of Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS).

At least 73 people were killed on Friday, August 22, after an armed group opened fire inside an Iraqi Sunni mosque in Diyala.
Attacks on mosques have in the past unleashed a deadly series of revenge killings and counter attacks in Iraq, where violence has returned to the levels of 2006-2007, the peak of a sectarian civil war.

Ayatollah Qassim also touched on the situation in Bahrain and once again called on the Al Khalifa regime to put an end to the country's crisis by meeting the Bahraini people's demands.

Since mid-February 2011, thousands of anti-regime protesters have held numerous demonstrations in the streets of Bahrain, calling for the ruling Al Khalifa family to relinquish power.

Scores of people have been killed and hundreds of others injured and arrested in the Manama regime’s ongoing crackdown on peaceful demonstrations.
