Al Wefaq National Islamic Society’s Media Centre called for the immediate release of photojournalist Ammar Abdulrasoul, denouncing subjecting him to torture and coercion to extract confessions.

Al Wefaq National Islamic Society’s Media Centre called for the immediate release of photojournalist Ammar Abdulrasoul, denouncing subjecting him to torture and coercion to extract confessions.

Ammar is a professional and award winning photographer. Heavily armed forces arrested him from his home in Eker on 24 July 2014. Al Wefaq stresses that Ammar’s case, yet again, demonstrates the Bahraini Authority’s systematic targeting of journalists to stop their media activism.

Ammar was questioned about a photograph he took back in March 2011 and which showed how civilized and peaceful the people of Bahrain are in their prodemocracy movement. Thus, Al Wefaq believes that the Authorities are trying to hide the true image of the Bahraini uprising by targeting journalists.

The Authority is fully responsible for the safety of Ammar AbdulRasoul and must release him immediately.
