Pakistani Shia party demands operation against sectarian killers

The Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen has reiterated its demand for an operation against sectarian killers operating in the city, calling particularly for the immediate arrests of the murderers of Kazim Raza and his daughter, Neha Fatima.

The Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen has reiterated its demand for an operation against sectarian killers operating in the city, calling particularly for the immediate arrests of the murderers of Kazim Raza and his daughter, Neha Fatima.

The Sindh government has repeatedly assured our leadership of severe action against sectarian militants but, once again, it has failed to keep its word.

The authorities’ inaction serves to encourage these ruthless killers and they are openly targeting our people,” said Hassan Hashmi, the secretary general of the MWM’s Karachi chapter, at a press conference on Friday.

He lamented that even the brutal attack on Raza and his family was not considered grave enough to warrant an all-out operation against sectarian killers.

Raza, 45, and his 22-year-old daughter died on the spot when four unidentified attackers opened fire at the family outside their house near the Dar-e-Batool Imambargah in Surjani Town.

These terrorists also assassinated eminent MWM members, Adeel Abbas and Haider Abbas, during the holy month of Ramazan. Their elimination is a must and to achieve this aim, we call for the Operation Zarb-e-Azb to be expanded throughout the country,” said Hashmi.

He likened the situation of Shias in Pakistan, Iraq and Syria to that of the defenceless Gazans being bombarded by Israel and stressed the need for severe punishments. “Every sectarian killer who is arrested should be hanged publicly. These terrorists are openly challenging the writ of the government and the authorities must respond with full force,” demanded the MWM official.

Hashmi warned that if the government still failed to initiate measures, the Shia community would be forced to come out on the streets. “If there are still no visible efforts, the Shia community reserves the right to launch forceful protests that could dislodge the rulers of Sindh, just like the previous Balochistan government,” he asserted.
