Bahrain security forces called in two citizens who were stripped of their citizenships to the Department of Immigration and Passports where they were handed summonses to appear before court on August 7th, 2014. The two are accused of breaching residency and immigration regulations. Bahrain had revoked nationalities of 31 citizens for reasons related to freedom of and opinion and belief.
Al Wefaq stated that Bahrain regime has deprived these individuals from their basic and fundamental rights as Bahraini citizens and as humans. This is considered a breach to the right of opinion and belief and has crossed humanitarian limits.
Al Wefaq stressed that the 31 individuals and activists are native citizens and have the right to live in this country, which cannot be cancelled by any legislation or oppressive laws.
The regime did not only revoke citizenships from those people but also deprived them from jobs and life in their country. The expulsion of Ayatollah Hussain Najati is obviously demonstrates the regime’s targeting of Shiites in Bahrain, and it is continuing with the same methodology with the rest of those stripped of their citizenships.
Al Wefaq emphasized that such treatment is inhumane and unethical and reflects the desire to revenge for political and sectarian reasons. Such barbarian behavior does not reflect a State of law and humanity.
