Al Wefaq National Islamic Society views the lawsuit filed by the Justice Minister, and which it only heard about through the media and tweets posted by the Minister, as a malicious political decision against the Society. Al Wefaq believes the statements made about targeting Al Wefaq are a front-cover for political decisions and hateful measures.
Al Wefaq believes that the Authority’s claims are linked to Al Wefaq’s persistence to reach a legal political solution for the political crisis to make citizens the source of all powers, based on the one-person-one-vote principle. The Bahrainis must have the right to elect their government and a full-power legislative council through fair electoral districts. Furthermore, Bahrain needs an independent and impartial judicial system and a diverse security services that provides security for all citizens and residents.
The lawsuit filed by the Justice Minister may be linked to the expulsion of Mr. Tom Malinowski, the U.S Assistant Secretary for Human Rights, democracy and labor, from Bahrain for meeting with the opposition.
Al Wefaq stresses that the claims put forward by the Justice Ministry are void because the procedures of Al Wefaq’s General Assemblies were legal and fully consistent with its Statute. Moreover, Al Wefaq had commented on all remarks made at the time and did not receive further comments from the Ministry about the said General-Assemblies, some of which were held a number of years ago.
