SIBU: Some 150 needy Muslims here were presented with food- stuff to help them celebrate Hari Raya.

The recipients, who came from five surau in Jalan Kampung Hilir, Jalan Kampung Nangka and the surrounding areas, yesterday received items such as rice, instant noodles and biscuits from the Federation of 7th Clans Association.

Association president Chai Tien Seng and Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaee gave away the items.

Speaking to reporters later, Chai said the donation would go a long way in strengthening the prevailing racial harmony in the state.

“We are all brothers and sisters even though we are of different racial and religious backgrounds. We live harmoniously together.

“This is truly 1Malaysia,” he said.

Chai assured that his association would make similar donation to needy Dayak next Gawai.

“We hope that other Chinese associations would come forward to make similar contribution in the spirit of 1Malaysia,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dr Annuar said he was touched by the gesture of the association, which to him was also the first time a Chinese body had come forward to donate to the needy here to help make their Hari Raya merrier.

“This shows how close-knit the different races in town are,” Dr Annuar said.
