Cairo Hosts "Ramadan, Month of Quran" Celebration

"Ramadan, Month of Quran" will be celebrated in the Egyptian capital of Cairo on Sunday.

A number of high-ranking officials including Culture Minister Jaber Ousfour will be present at the program, al-Ahram daily reports.

It is organized as part of the ministry's special programs on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan and will include an opera performance featuring the virtues of Ramadan.

75 boys and girls will perform in the opera, which highlights the importance of such virtues as patience, helping the poor, and protecting oneself against temptations.

Muslims worldwide fast during the hours of daylight in Ramadan, which is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar.

This year's Ramadan began on Sunday, June 29 and will continue through Monday, July 28.
