Bahraini court orders jail term for 11 year old

A Bahraini court has ordered the detention of 11-year-old Jihad Alsameea for an unspecified period of time or until his “behaviour improves”.

A Bahraini court has ordered the detention of 11-year-old Jihad Alsameea for an unspecified period of time or until his “behaviour improves”, in relation to the ongoing political crisis in which citizens are targeted for taking standing for democracy. The court’s decision comes within an official systematic targeting of children by the regime in Bahrain.

The Bahrain Observatory for Human Rights (BHRO) filed a complaint to the Special Rapporteur on children at the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the UN.

Bahraini children have been subjected to abuse and pursuit under the use of the Authorities terrorism law to criminalize children who join peaceful protests and events.

The BHRO stated in its complaint that the detained children in Bahrain are denied access to lawyers. The security authorities violate due processes in line with the Convention on the Rights of the Child. What is most appalling, however, is the continuous torture and cruel treatment perpetrated by the security apparatuses against children in Bahrain.

In a separate case, a judge ordered to keep Mohammed Alsaffar, 15, in detention for 45 days.
