Dr. Saeed Alsamahiji has been arrested again to serve a one year sentences he received for exercising freedom of opinion. Security forces took him from his house in early morning hours Tuesday 1st July, 2014.
Al Wefaq said the sentence issued against Alsamahiji comes within the official punishment of the medics who treated wounded protesters regardless of their beliefs or backgrounds.
Alsamahiji was arrested for the second time back in October 2012, along with 6 other medics all convicted for treating wounded protesters during the brutal crackdown on the wide protests that erupted on 14 February. While in jail, Alsamahiji suffered from a deteriorating health condition. Among them were Dr. Ali Alekry, Orthopaedic Surgeon, who specializes in pediatric orthopedics, and Ibrahim Dimistani, who is a paramedic and former secretary of the Bahrain Nursing Society. Both are still behind bars serving the oppressive sentences issued by Bahrain’s “injustice system”.
In June 2012, Alsamahiji went on hunger strike for 75 hours in protest to the arbitrary sentences handed to the Bahraini medics who he said were supposed to be honored for their noble and humanitarian role.
