Bahrainis demand ouster of Al Khalifa regime

Bahraini demonstrators have poured into the streets across the country to demand the Al Khalifa royal family to relinquish power.

Bahraini demonstrators have poured into the streets across the country to demand the Al Khalifa royal family to relinquish power.

The protests were held in several cities and towns all over the kingdom on Friday.

The protesters also expressed solidarity with political prisoners and called for their release.

On Thursday, people took to the streets in the central town of A’ali, along with the villages of Ma’ameer and Samahij, protesting against the torture of political prisoners in Bahrain’s detention centers.

The small Persian Gulf kingdom has been the scene of pro-democracy demonstrations since 2011.

In March 2011, troops from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates were deployed to Bahrain to help Manama quash the anti-regime protests.

Scores of Bahrainis have been killed and hundreds of others injured and arrested in the ongoing crackdown on peaceful demonstrations.

Amnesty International has denounced the relentless suppression of Bahraini protesters on numerous occasions.
