Sayed Majeed Almishal, President of Islamic Council of Scholars, said the Bahraini court’s decision to dissolve the Council further complicates the situation in the country and is does not help in solving the political crisis.
Almishal spoke at a press conference he held on the sidelines of the Human Rights Council 26th session in Geneva. He said a complaint will be filed at the UN according to the applicable mechanisms in the UN, adding he will further communicate with the concerned UN officials.
Almishal declared the Council board’s refusal to the “politicized and arbitrary” decision adding it will take the case to the Cassation Court and inform UN officials on the process.
“The decision to dissolve the Islamic Council of Scholars, in response to the request of the Justice Minister, is politicized and comes within the Authority’s sectarian and religious persecution against Shiite citizens in Bahrain”, Almishal stated, “It also comes in a series of systematic violations of human rights and religious freedom, such as demolishing the mosques and deporting Ayatollah Sheik Hussain Alnjati”.
Almishal said the decision will not stop the Scholars from playing their responsible national and religious roles to serve the Bahraini citizens.
Back at home, Sheik Ali Salman, Secretary-General in Al Wefaq National Islamic Society, echoed the statements of Sayed Majeed Almishal adding, “The Authority in Bahrain is entrenching its systematic sectarian persecution”. He said the Bahraini Scholars activism and enlightenment cannot be stopped by closing down a building referring to the court’s ruling to uphold the dissolution of the Council.
