Sheikh Maytham Alsalman, head of Religious Freedoms Unit in Bahrain Observatory for Human Rights, said Bahraini activists attending the Human Rights Council’s 26th session in Geneva are to take a series of actions concerning the court’s arbitrary ruling to uphold the dissolution of the Islamic Council of Scholars.
Alsalman explained that a complaint will be filed to the concerned parties in the UN to address consistent patterns of human rights violations committed on religious grounds. This includes the dissolution of the largest establishment for the Shia community in Bahrain and the disenfranchising of Shiite citizens from their religious rights and freedoms that are ensured by international laws.
Alsalman outlined that the decision to dissolve the Islamic Council of Scholars is denounced by rights groups and UN bodies concerned with religious freedom because it blatantly reflects the religious and sectarian persecution the Bahraini Authority is practicing.
