Saudi authorities investigating sectarian violence against Shiites

Saudi Ministry of Interior conducted a formal investigation in a sectarian case presented by 40 Shiite citizens on May 28, against a user of Twitter who said that "the unnatural phenomena in Saudi Arabia is because of Shiite and their rituals".

Walid Sulais, a human rights activist said that “the abuser accused Shiite of Qatif of being idolaters”.

He demanded people through his account in Facebook to report to the authorities about this clear violation against Shiite sect, stressing on the importance of criminalizing sectarian strife.

Sulais has also called to criminalize people who commit electronic violations and abuses.

He added that “it is our duty to report such abuses in order to preserve national unity, political and social stability in the state”.

Sulais praised the Ministry's response where he said that “it will be deterrent to many racist and sectarian acts”.
