Al Wefaq National Islamic Society expressed serious concern over the safety of prisoners of conscience who have gone on hunger strike in protest to mistreatment and denial of basic rights in prison.
Al Wefaq said the regime is ethically and legally responsible for any consequences.
“The authorities must provide humanitarian necessities to the prisoners”, Al Wefaq added, “Complaints from prisoners have been increasing. This reflects that the regime is using power to retaliate from dissidents who are detained without legal justification”.
The family of Ibrahim Aldemistani, a paramedic, said the prison administration did not allow him to see a specialized doctor as he is suffering from health complications after joining the hunger strike.
Ahmed Mirza is a sickle cell patient and has been on hunger strike for 3 days now in protest to mistreatment and medical negligence in prison.
Hussain Albanna and Redha Alghasra have also gone on hunger strike. The two were kept in solitary confinement for 29 days where they were subjected to sever torture, as their families reported. They are now being subjected to degrading treatment.
News circulated reporting a number of prisoners in Jau prison to have gone on hunger strike in solidarity with Redha Alghasra and Hussain Albanna, and to also protest the mistreatment by the prison administration there.
