The Senegalese author of the book "The Quran and Greek Culture" apologized for writing the insulting book.

The Senegalese author of the book "The Quran and Greek Culture" apologized for writing the insulting book.

According to the leral website, his apology came after a wave of protests against the publication of the book.

Senegal's religious leaders on Saturday condemned the book which claims that the verses of the Holy Quran were inspired by the Greek culture and denies the Mi'raj (ascension of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to Heaven).

Oumar Sankhare in a statement asserted that he never meant to insult Islam.

"I once again reiterate that I do not deny the fact that the Holy Quran is Vahy (revelation)," he stated.

"In my book, there is no indication that I have rejected the prophethood of Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH)," he said, adding "I, as a Muslim, believe in the Word of God and the Khatm an-Nubuwwah (Finality of Prophethood)."

Islam is the predominant religion in the West African country. Some eighty-nine percent of Senegal's population is estimated to be Muslim.
