The council underlined its support for peaceful measures aimed at preventing clashes and killings, IINA.fr website reported.
It also stressed that the crisis in Libya will not be resolved without tolerance, cooperation and love for fellow Muslim brothers.
Scores of Libyans were killed in an offensive launched by a retired army general against militants in the eastern city of Benghazi.
According to the latest official figures, nearly 80 people have been killed and more than 140 injured in violent clashes that began on Friday, and the death toll continues to rise.
Khalifa Haftar’s loyalists, known as the National Army, have used air and ground forces against the militants holed up in the region.
Libya is bracing for greater chaos as more troops are joining the forces commanded by Haftar.
Meanwhile, the government has proposed an initiative aimed at saving the country from plunging into civil war.
In an open letter published on the government’s website, Tripoli called on the parliament to “take a recess after the vote on the 2014 budget and until new parliamentary elections” are held within three months.
