The Ministry of Education in Bahrain has requested 805 teachers from the Egyptian Education Ministry while more than 10,000 Bahrainis qualified for the job remain unemployed.
“This is barefaced persecution and sectarian discrimination that national educators cannot stay silent about”, said Salman Salim, who heads the Education Unit in Al Wefaq National Islamic Society.
Salim said the Education Ministry in Bahrain is suffering from corruption and wasting financial and human resources.
“The Education Ministry continues to practice systematic and sectarian exclusion against national cadre qualified for educational and teaching jobs”, Salim added, “It is destroying the future of education in Bahrain through irresponsible measures. It replaced qualified staff with non-qualified persons and deprived teachers and educators of bonuses and promotions they should be entitled to. The Education Ministry in Bahrain needs to be restructured to include qualified national educators”.
Salim noted that the series of sectarian measures taken by the Education Ministry are the worst amongst the long series of setbacks the country has been going through.
