Bahrain's leading Shia cleric Ayatollah Issa Qassem called on seminaries and Islamic centers in the Muslim world to issue Fatwas against Takfir.
Addressing worshippers at Imam Sadeq (AS) Mosque in Manama on Friday, Ayatollah Qassem described Takfirs' actions and Fatwas as being against the tenets of Islam, Al-Manar news network reported.
Takfiris are a group of extremists who consider some Muslims as infidels and have perpetrated many crimes against followers of Islam in different countries like Iraq, Syria, Pakistan and Lebanon.
Elsewhere in his Friday prayers sermon, Ayatollah Qassem underlined the peaceful nature of the Bahraini people's protests, saying that the popular movement of Bahrain, which was formed with the aim of securing national dignity and independence, will continue on its peaceful path.
He also reiterated that there is no other way forward for Bahrain to achieve stability than introduction of reforms.
Since mid-February 2011, thousands of pro-democracy protesters have held numerous peaceful demonstrations on the streets of Bahrain, calling for the Al Khalifa royal family to relinquish power.
