Al Wefaq National Islamic Society in Bahrain said the Interior ministry is directly responsible for the killing of Abdulazziz Alabbar Alabbar was killed by Interior personnel 25 days ago today, but the authorities are refusing to mention the real reason of death in his death certificate. His corpse remains in detention as his family would not accept  a faked death certificate.

Al Wefaq stressed that the circumstances, during and after the crime, make an independent and impartial investigation necessary, and which the authorities are refusing.

Abdulazziz Alabbar was shot with bird shot gun and tear-gas grenade on February 23rd, 2014 during the funeral of Sayed Ali Almusawi. The security forces had fired randomly at the mourners that day, leaving many wounded, but the most serious injury was Alabbar’s. Before the security forces attacked the citizens in the area, an armored vehicle stopped at the gates of a religious place, where the funeral was held, and fired toxic tear-gas directly inside, causing suffocation among the mourners. The criminalized and provocative act sparked anger among the citizens.

The interior ministry announced an investigation would look into the incident. The conclusion was a clear and honest confession of shooting tear-gas at the religious place, although the ministry made unacceptable and week justifications for the crime. However, the ministry did not reveal details about the violations its forces perpetrated by firing at the citizens from the very same armored vehicle.

” The least is to demand an impartial investigation into all the violations perpetrated on 23rd February 2014, including the fatal injury of Abdulazziz Alabbar and the attack on the religious place in Sar which caused suffocation among the citizens inside”, Al Wefaq said, “not admitting to the crime does not mean it did not happen”.

Al Wefaq called on the authority to immediately and hand his corpse to the family and issue a death certificate for Alabbar with the real reason of death which is the fatal injury the interior ministry personnel caused him.

Alabbar went into coma for 55 days following his injury, while the authorities tried to escape the responsibility of the crime.
