On Tuesday, Bahrain courts sentenced 16 citizens to 5 years each with cases related to the political crisis in the country. Two children are also to remain in detention for 3 years.
The verdicts follow on to the reprisal campaign against dissidents for their calls for democratic transition.
Detainees continue to complain of coercion, torture and assault during arrest and interrogation in order to extract confessions.
The Bassiouni report, issued in 2011, confirmed that the judiciary is Bahrain is used to attack the opposition. Today, international rights NGOs continue to criticize the atrocious human rights situation in Bahrain as citizens continue to call for an end to the dictatorship.
