Malawian Muslims will have their first Islamic television channel soon as preparations continue for the construction of its studios and planning of its programs.
“We have identified the place where the TV station will be situated; it will be housed in the Globe House at Yiannakis in Limbe, Blantyre,” sheikh Mustahab Ayami, a senior advisor to TV Islam project, told Malawi Muslims official website.
“We have also already designed the studio and right now we are visiting other existing television stations to appreciate what they are doing so that when we roll out we should give our viewers nothing but the best.”
TV Islam got its license in 2013 when Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) issued licenses to several radio stations and TV stations.
Some stations have already rolled out while some are waiting for the official migration from analogue to digital broadcasting. TV Islam is also waiting for the digital switch to give quality picture to its viewers.
Ayami said that the TV is at an advanced stage and will soon hit the airwaves for viewing, urging Muslims to send their suggestions on how the station should be operating.
“I would like to take this opportunity to ask Malawians to start sending their views on the how they want their TV to be operating,” Ayami said.
“People can send their views through the following address: tvislam@gmail.com,” he added.
Islam is the second largest religion in Malawi after Christianity. It accounts for 36% of the country’s now 16million population.
