Chelsea Player Funds Construction of Mosque

A Senegalese footballer playing in Britain's Premier League has funded the construction of a mosque in his parents' hometown in Senegal.

Demba Ba, a professional footballer who plays as a striker for Premier League side Chelsea and the Senegal national team, provided the money for building the Nasrallah Mosque in the town of Doondu sen24heures website reported.

Senegalese media have reported his contribution ahead of the inauguration of the mosque in the coming weeks.

Demba Ba is a Muslim who celebrates his goals by performing a Sajda prostration, forehead to the ground. He was brought up in a religious home.

"Being a Muslim is more important than me being a footballer. A good Muslim is a good person, so I try to be a good person," he said in an interview with the Independent last year.

His homeland, Senegal, is a country in West Africa where Islam is the predominant religion. Nearly 90 percent of the country's population is estimated to be Muslim.
