Today marks 21 days since the death of Abdulazziz Alabbar, but the authorities are still refusing to issue a death certificate with the true reason of death. Once again, the regime is attempting to protect killers through its entrenchment of impunity.
Alabbar was shot in the head by security forces during a funeral procession last February. He went into coma for 55 days before passing away.
Al Wefaq National Islamic Society wondered why the prosecution office, Special Interrogation Unit, ombudsman office, National Institution for Human Rights and other official institutions that claim to defend human rights are silent about the matter. Al Wefaq stressed that the body of the martyr Alabbar is a vivid proof of the official irresponsibility and negligence towards the lives of Bahraini citizens.
Al Wefaq’s Liberties and Human Rights Department confirmed that the 27-year-old died on Friday 18th April 2014, due to a head injury he sustained when he was targeted to the head with a fire shot.
Al Wefaq reiterates its support to the family of the martyr in regards to his death certificate, and praises their patience in face of the regime’s stubbornness and tyranny. The regime’s arbitrary dealing with the family reveals the size of autocracy against the people for their demands for democratic transition.
