During the second day of the commemoration of Maulud of Sayyidah al Zahra marital issues and family matters were discussed, where the participants, men and women, raised many issues and addressed.

Leader of the Shiite Islamic Movement in Nigeria lamented the deteriorating condition of marital issues among people, where ethics are relegated to the background.

He said the Sharia, which covers rights and responsibilities of both man and woman as equal before God, is for the benefit of mankind. He pointed out that, the rights and responsibilities of both man and woman are equal, though their responsibilities differ in accordance with his or her  nature, and that the rights are balanced with both complementing each other.

Commenting further, Sheikh Zakzaky said men are a degree above women, as the Holy Qur’an decreed, and that the Infallible Imams translated this as the Right of Divorce that is exclusively for men.

He pointed out that by nature women are weak, and through God’s wisdom this weakness is for peaceful coexistence with her spouse.  “Among all God’s creature, human is considered the best because he is given freedom of choice and desire. For this God instituted Sharia as guidance to man”, he added.

He stated that, there exist today fragments of ways of Jahiliyya in the conduct of marital affairs among people where women were degraded and restricted to domestic work only. “Such culture still exists today, rights of Women are trampled upon at will and divorce has become rampant in an unacceptable manner that contradicts Sharia”, said Sheikh Zakzaky.

He therefore called on people to fear Allah and be just in the conduct of marital affairs, saying everyone will be judged according to his deeds. “Each one of us must be a model for others to copy.  Man, in his action, speech and behavior, display his personality, and this will reflect his true form on the Day of Judgment”, he added. As such family issues should not be regarded as a simple matter.

The concluded that the value of man is measured by his conduct with his wife.
