Grand Ayatollah Makarem: Beware of Europeansˈ notorious acts

An Iranian source of jurisprudence, Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi, warned concerned officials here Thursday to beware of the notorious acts made by the Europeans aimed at interfering in Iranˈs internal affairs.

An Iranian source of jurisprudence, Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi, warned concerned officials here Thursday to beware of the notorious acts made by the Europeans aimed at interfering in Iranˈs internal affairs.

ˈThe European Parliament (EP) has ratified a 20-article anti-Iranian resolution, which provides sufficient reason (for our officials) to be quite conscious,ˈ he said in a religious mourning ritual.

He said that in accordance with the EP resolution, the European officials who travel to Iran should be allowed to meet the ˈcriminals involved in the 2009 sedition.ˈ

ˈThey have created this hue and cry under such conditions that our nuclear issue is not quite resolved yet, which calls for full conscience (of the concerned officials),ˈ he said.

Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi meanwhile criticized the regional Muslims for getting engaged in Muslim versus Muslim fights, which serve merely the interests of the international Zionist lobby.

That is while the EU Parliament in its anti-Iranian resolution passed on Thursday stressed that the EU should exploit the current window of opportunity of nuclear talks and internal developments in Iran, which favor both domestic reform and better EU-Iran relations.

It also calls on the EU to be more active in addressing the human rights situation and in supporting civil society in Iran.

MEPs say that once a comprehensive agreement is reached that guarantees that Iran’s nuclear program is exclusively peaceful, the EU should ˈgraduallyˈ drop its nuclear-related sanctions.

If substantial progress is made in talks on the nuclear file, the Council should start devising a concept for bilateral EU-Iran relations, including a possible formal EU-Iran agreement, says the resolution.

The EU and Iran could focus cooperation on areas including the development of civil society and the private sector in Iran, the fight against narcotics and the environment, education and health, it says.

The European Parliament also calls for the first steps to be taken towards opening an EU delegation in Tehran by the end of this year.

This would be an efficient means of influencing the Iranian policies and the dialogue on human and minority rights, it believes. MEPs add that EU policy towards Iran should be more independent.
