Nigerian Official Urges Recitation of Holy Quran

Gov. Rauf Aregbesola of Osun, Nigeria, on Friday, urged Muslims in the country to read the Holy Quran to enable them to understand the religion better.

Rauf Aregbesola of Osun, Nigeria, on Friday, urged Muslims in the country to read the Holy Quran to enable them to understand the religion better.Aregbesola, who is the Chairman of the 28TH National Quran Recitation Competition, which opened in Jigawa on Friday, said reciting the holy book was very important for Muslims.He said that "the Holy Quran, being the ultimate companion and guide for all Muslims, made it incumbent on all Muslims to read and memorize it for proper understanding and practice of the religion."The Quran is the ultimate for all Muslims, therefore, it is mandatory that every Muslim understands how to recite it."The governor reminded Muslims that the Holy Quran would make them have proper guidance and receive inspirations from Almighty Allah.He urged Muslim parents to send their children to learn how to read and memorize the Holy book alongside western education, noting that more Muslims should join the national Quran recitation competition.Highpoint of the event was the visit of Vice President Namadi Sambo, who declared the competition open./149
