(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) The Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) has identified 1,500 Shia practitioners across the country, with the most active being in Selangor, Perak and Johor.
Jakim Research Division (Faith) director Mohd Aizam Mas'od said, at present, legal action was being taken against the Shia practitioners, with cooperation from state Islamic councils and departments.
He said due to lack of evidence, most state Islamic councils and departments were having problems to take those involved to Syariah courts, but Jakim would convene meetings and discussions with them to find a suitable solution to the problem.
Mohd Aizam said this to reporters after giving a talk on Shia teachings at a seminar on Faith organised jointly by Jakim, Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) and Penerbitan Dian Darulnaim in Kuala Lumpur today.
"What's important is for us to continue monitoring and taking stern action against these Shia practitioners and show them our determination to curb the spread of this teaching," he added.
