(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The Bahrain Youth Centre of Al Wefaq National Islamic Society in Bahrain expressed its serious concern over the ongoing human rights violations since the eruption of the prodemocracy movement in February 2011. The Centre said, “Bahrain has turned into a stricken country in human rights, and the youth make the largest number of victims of human rights violations committed by the regime”.The Centre mentioned in its statement, on International Human Rights Day, that Bahrain jails are crowded with youths, who have been subjected to torture and mistreatment. The statement also comes across the large number of youths who had been arbitrarily dismissed from jobs and education seats as a retaliative measure for their participation in the demands movement for democratic transition. The statement adds that, “The huge number of violations documented in the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry and the 176 recommendations of the UN Human Rights Council as well as international NGO reports all slam Bahrain with a strong condemnation of human rights violations”.“While the world is celebrating Human Rights Day in effort to improve the human rights situation universally, the regime in Bahrain continues its practice of persecution, repression and restrictions on fundamental rights and freedoms of expression and religion”, the statement said. It added, “Citizens who exercise their right to freedom of expression and peaceful demonstration are subjected to killings, arbitrary arrest, torture and assault”.The Bahrain Youth Centre called for inclusive reform in human rights in Bahrain highlighting the important role the international community and United Nations are required to take in the prevention of human rights violations in Bahrain./129
