Lucknow (Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Shia mourners on Friday clashed with some youth in a village in Moradabad district in Uttar Pradesh, following a Moharram procession being stoned by miscreants. The violence saw angry mobs resorting to stone pelting at passersby and also vandalising property, besides indulging in stray incidents of arson.The violence was triggered when some misguided youths pelted stone at a Imam Hussain mourning procession as it was passing through a religious place, said the police.The procession, which was going through a village in Katghar in the district, was interrupted for a brief period. Angry mobs soon started pelting stones at passersby and indulged in vandalising property.Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) RK Vishwakarma said that the local police immediately swung into action and rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. A fire tender was also requisitioned after reports of some shops and a few vehicles being torched by the mob came in.The state home department spokesman said that the district magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police were camping in the violence-hit village to personally monitor the situation.Elsewhere in the state, Moharram passed off peacefully with no untoward incident reported from any other place./129
