(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - In line with the systematic violations against religious freedom, annual Ashura manifestations were targeted by regime forces in Bahrain. Many Ashura paintings, banners, symbols and displays have been deliberately vandalized. Such hostile behavior and provocative acts against the beliefs and rituals of the majority in Bahrain are completely unacceptable. These days mark the tragedy of Karbala where Imam Hussain (A), his family and his companions were murdered in an inconceivable way. A wide category of people in Bahrain commemorate this sacred martyrdom of the grandson of Islam, Prophet Mohammed (pbuh), as a very important event in Islamic history. This is not the first time the regime forces attack these ritual manifestations during Ashura days. The past couple of years witnessed the same violations perpetrated by the regime forces who expropriate the religious freedoms of citizens in such provocative way. Religious banners and paintings had been repeatedly vandalized by regime forces. In many cases, the regime had also banned religious expressions and rallies practiced in public since hundreds of years back. In fact, excessive force was heavily used against worshipers in all areas across Bahrain during the emergency law in 2011.The regime forces have recently attacked an Ashura religious gathering in Ma’ameer area on Monday 4th October 2013. The citizens were shocked by the unjustifiable and sudden attack. Eyewitnesses confirmed many cases of teargas suffocation among children and elderly people.
