Bahrain: Al Wefaq addresses the Public Prosecution on the raid of its offices

Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society addressed the Public Prosecution Office in response to the illegal raid carried out by the regime forces.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society addressed the Public Prosecution Office in response to the illegal raid carried out by the regime forces. The raid took place amid a security siege on Al-Wefaq offices in Qufool area, in the capital Manama, preventing the Society’s members from reaching the building and barring those who were inside from communicating with their families or anyone outside the building.Al-Wefaq mentioned in its letter to the Public Prosecution Office, that was sent immediately after the raid, that the forces had prevented senior members of Al Wefaq and it lawyer from entering the building to see the reasons behind the raid and the taken procedures. The forces had also refused to talk to the member of the Public Prosecution Office who was supervising them.Al-Wefaq stressed that the measure taken by the regime is an infringement to the political associations’ law in Article 19 which states that the offices of the Society as well as its documents, posts and communications, are protected by law and it is illegal to spy on a society or confiscate its possessions without a judicial decision. All measures should be taken in accordance to the law. It is against the law to inspect the offices of a society or investigate an alleged crime without a decision made by the General Prosecutor and with the presence of representatives of the Public Prosecution Office and the society. Shall the society’s representative refuse to show up, this will be mentioned in the inspection statement. If these procedures are breached, the inspection and its results are void. By also violating the Criminal Law procedures, which imply the presence of the owner of the real estate, or person in charge, the inspection is considered illegal.Al-Wefaq said imposing a siege on its building is unaccepted and illegal. Al Wefaq’s lawyer was informed by the officer in charge that the representative of the Prosecution Office was inside the mansion, and this is a flagrant infringement by the Public Prosecution Office, and so all procedures following this raid are considered to be breaking the law. The Public Prosecution Office takes full responsibility of the safety of the individuals who were inside the building as well as all any damage caused to the items inside.Al-Wefaq noted that it was not informed about the raid and the inspection. The society was asked to send a representative to Al-Noaim Police Station, the society received the summon at 12:34 pm. The society informed the police station that a representative will attend at 3:00 pm but we were astonished to hear news that the regime forces had raided the Society’s offices in Qufool around 1: 30 pm./149
