(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society stated that Khalil Al-Marzooq, the Political Asistant of Al-Wefq Secretary General, was arrested because he expressed his support for human rights and the democratic demands of the people of Bahrain and has stressed on nonviolence.Al-Wefaq added that the charges Al-Marzooq is facing are unreasonable and lack credibility as they contradict with the statement for which Al-Marzooq is being interrogated on. In the statements he had made, he stressed that Al-Wefaq advocates nonviolence and denounces all kinds of violence from any side.Al-Wefaq regards such vindictive accusations as restrictive measures meant to impose more restrictions on the remaining tight margin of freedom of expression through the illegitimate use of power by sham laws.Commenting on the statement of the First General Attorney that said, “Al-Marzooq incited violence and terrorist acts”, Al-Wefaq said, “Such accusations are baseless and so contradictory to the Al-Marzooq’s speech, and who has been calling for nonviolence and denouncing all kinds of violence, especially bombings”. Al-Wefaq added “Al-Marzooq’s statements in symposiums, open discussions, tweets and posts on other the social media networks illustrate his advocacy of nonviolence and his condemnation of violence for religious and humanitarian reasons”.Commenting on a bombing that took place in Bahrain, Al-Marzooq wrote on his Twitter account the following tweets:· As a national and religious duty, I call on all the revolutionaries to denounce the bombings, those who are responsible for the bombings are the enemies of the revolution.· Our revolution is peaceful and will remain peaceful, our responsibility is to protect it from the enemies to achieve victory.· We will never accept the bombings to take place under any circumstance from any party, we will never let any malicious plans to happen now or in the future.“Such trials are meant to target the political activism and freedom of expression ” Al-wefaq stated. Al-Wefaq wondered why a decision has been taken to transfer Al-Marzooq to the court which will look into the case and which has been scheduled to be held during an official holiday, meaning that the court will be opened for Al-Marzooq’s session in an extraordinarily state.Al-Wefaq pointed out that the First Attorney’s statement contradicts with the videotaped event in which Al-Marzooq delivered his speech. Al-Marzooq is committed to the opposition society’s decision to not raise any flag other than the national flag of Bahrain, adding that the claim is not supported by evidence./149
