Honoring the teachers on their international day has become a priority for the people of Bahrain who join the world to celebrate the 5th October in appreciation to the teachers devotions and their educational role in raising well aware and enlightened generations.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Honoring the teachers on their international day has become a priority for the people of Bahrain who join the world to celebrate the 5th October in appreciation to the teachers devotions and their educational role in raising well aware and enlightened generations. The teachers in Bahrain mark their international day with the pain of discrimination and bitterness of sectarian measures taken against them. The Ministry of Education continues to target teachers with vindictive inhuman sectarian measures to impose more restrictions on them. The Ministry of Education has set investigation units to interrogate all teachers who had participated in prodemocracy protests that took place in the uprising that erupted on 14th  February, 2011. After the interrogations, the Ministry dismissed and suspended some teachers form work. Many teachers also had their salaries cut as a punishment for their prodemocracy stances, a right that is ensured by the constitution and all human rights covenants which Bahrain is part of. Teachers were prevented from being promoted, in fact, many were downgraded, including the Head of Bahrain Teachers Association (BTA), Mahdi Abu Deeb, who has been in jailed for defending teachers’ rights in Bahrain. A number of teachers were put behind bars in Bahrain for reasons related to freedom of expression. On World Teachers Day, Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society expresses its solidarity with all teachers behind bars, especially “Mahdi Abu Deeb” and calls for the following:1- to immediately release of all jailed teachers2- to reinstate all dismissed teachers, including, former conscience prisoner and deputy head of BTA, Jaleela Al-Salman3- to reinstate the employees of Bahrain Training Institute to their job positions, after they had been arbitrarily downgraded4- to compensate all teachers who lost their jobs5- to hold to account all those involved in rights violations against teachers6- to stop politicizing of the educational sector7- to deal with all teachers in accordance to the principle of citizenship and equal opportunities8- to stop recruiting foreign teachers while hundreds of graduates are waiting to be recruited9- to abandon all kinds of sectarian measures in the educational field10-   to adopt clear and transparent procedures regarding recruitment and promotions/149
