(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The Pahang Islamic Religious Department (Jaip) detained a 64-year-old imam from Pekoti Timur, Ulu Keratong here for his alleged involvement in the banned Shia teachings.
Officers from Jaip along with police personnel who raided the suspect's house at the staff quarters of Ladang Risda Pekoti Timur on Friday night, seized various items including books and beads linked to the Shia Islam teachings.
JAIP enforcement chief Ahmad Raffli Abdul Malek said the suspect was believed to a practitioner since six years ago.
Pahang banned the propagation of the teachings on Sept 12. Those charged under the state Islamic laws face RM3,000 fine or two years jail upon conviction.
