(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Khalil Al Marzooq is detained in an isolated prison, Riffa centre, and not in the remand prison.Khalil Al Marzooq is a well known advocate for the civilized nonviolent movement demanding legitimate political rights. He is the Political Assistant of the Secretary General of Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society and former first deputy speaker of the Representatives Council in Bahrain.Local and international powers have condemned the arrest of Al Marzooq considering it a clear threat to political activism in Bahrain. His arrest is also considered to be a targeting of freedom of expression as well as misuse of law to clear out political disagreements. International groups such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch condemned the arrest of Al Marzooq considering it a significant escalation. Both groups said Al Marzooq had expressed his opinion peacefully.Al-Wefaq had issued a statement considering the step a security escalation and a big project conducted by the Government to wipe out political action.Al-Wefaq stressed that this summon is a clear targeting of political action in Bahrain and reflects the regime’s attempts to push the country into further complication and escalation due to its reckless decisions and repression.Al-Wefaq demands the immediate release of Al Marzooq and all prisoners of conscience held as hostages.Bahrainis express solidarity with leading figure Khalil Al MarzooqMany Bahrainis gathered yesterday in a solidarity event with Khalil Al Marzooq, the Political Assistant of Al-Wefaq’s Secretary-Genral, demanding his immediate release. Al Marzooq’s father delivered a speech at the event expressing full solidarity with the families of the martyrs and the prisoners of conscience. He said his son’s arrest is an attempt to stifle political activism in Bahrain, but the Authority will not succeed in silencing all voices of freedom.Human rights activist Sayed Yousif Al Muhafda said in his speech that Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International consider Al Marzooq a prisoner of conscience while they categorize the Bahraini Judiciary as partial. He said the Bahraini regime uses terms such as “terrorism” to accuse advocates of peaceful demands movements like Al Marzooq in front of the international community, but everyone knows what terrorism is in Bahrain, referring to the regime’s brutal repression of pro-democracy protesters./129
