(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Bahrain security forces have arrested a number of school children for reasons relating to freedom of expression. The arrests come with the beginning of a new school year, disturbing the children’s education. The security forces have raided a number of homes in different areas around Bahrain arresting students under 18.Students detained for freedom of expression in Bahrain are subjected to the state’s systematic denial of right to education although local and international laws and covenants ensure such right. The Liberties and Human Rights Department (LHRD) in Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society said the arrest of students is regrettable and raiding homes to carry out arrest campaign is condemned.Al-Wefaq’s LHRD demanded the immediate release of all students and children and allow them right to education as a fundamental right. Carrying out these arrests with the beginning of the school year indicates that the regime is persisting on violating their rights. The LHRD had mentioned that more than 100 school children are detained in Bahrain, some on remand and some jailed for political charges or reasons relating to freedom of expression and opinion. The youngest child prisoner, denied right to education, is 13 years old. The terrifying night raids- in which children were arrested and household property was damaged- were carried out by masked civil militias backed by a big number of security vehicles and a helicopter. /129
