Iranian embassy rejects Shia teachings claims as 'provocative'

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The Iranian embassy yesterday declined to comment on an allegations that some religious scholars who were under its payroll had been paid by them to spread Shia teachings among Muslims in Malaysia.

An embassy spokesman, however, described the claim as provocative and did not believe that a Malaysian ministry official would have given such a statement on the matter.

The New Straits Times yesterday carried a report quoting Home Ministry assistant secretary (Security Division) Zamihan Mat Zin as saying in Kuala Terengganu on Tuesday that there were scholars who were paid salaries by the Iranian embassy to spread Shia teachings here.

He also claimed the scholars told their followers that they had close ties with the embassy.
