Egyptian Politician: Mubarak’s Release Means Returning to Pre-Revolution Egypt

An Egyptian politician and Muslim Brotherhood leader deplored the release of former Egyptian dictator Hosni Mubarak from jail, saying that it means the return of Egypt to the days before the revolution.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Former dictator Hosni Mubarak is now under house arrest at a military hospital following his release from jail on Thursday, whereas Mohamed Mursi, the country’s first democratically-elected president, who was removed from office by the army on July 3, remains under arrest.

“Freedom of Hosni Mubarak plays a complementary role for some previous moves made to bring Egypt back to the era before the Revolution on January 25, 2011,” Muslim Brotherhood's senior leader and former Egyptian Lawmaker Yasri Talib told FNA on Sunday.

He said opponents of the Egyptian revolution released Mubarak from prison after they could hold power through the bloody coup of the military council.

“The anti-revolutionary forces have hatched a plot not only against the Muslim Brotherhood, but also against the entire Egypt as they want to return the former regime to power,” he added.

Egypt has been experiencing unrelenting violence since July 3, when the army toppled former President Mohammed Mursi, the first democratically elected Egyptian head of state, and suspended the constitution and dissolved the parliament. The army also appointed the head of the Supreme Constitutional Court, Adly Mahmoud Mansour, as the new interim president.

The government of interim President Adly Mansour has launched a fierce crackdown on Mursi supporters and arrested more than 2,000 Brotherhood members.

Nearly 1,000 people were killed in a week of violence between Mursi anti-coup protesters and security forces after police dispersed their protest camps in a deadly operation on August 14.

The massacre sparked international condemnation and prompted world bodies to call for an independent investigation into the violence.
