Al-Wefaq to hold conference in late August titled, “Democratic change in Bahrain”

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society is to launch a conference titled, “Democratic Change in Bahrain” under the slogan, “Democracy.. a right, and a people’s will”. Political leaders, activists, academics, and a number of observers and intellectuals and representatives of different societies and political parties will participate in the conference that will be held late August.  The conference’s agenda will include 10 titles with an inclusive study on the history of the movement for democracy in Bahrain, an analysis on the issue and a prospective of its future.It will also make an analysis study of the democratic movement in Bahrain and the obstacles it had faced. In addition to the main political milestones and decisions and the challenges it faces and how to come over these challenges as well as the future of democracy in Bahrain. The main titles in the agenda are; the democratic movement in Bahrain, the challenges and obstacles, the conception of democracy in Bahrain (the constitutional assembly, the national assembly 1974, the broad directions of the national assembly, the problems and complications, decisions for solution, the stance of the people) The conference will also discuss the popular demand and the attempts to circumvent those demands. Such as the Elitist Petition, the Public Petition, the assigned Shura council, the popular movement in the 90s, the National Action Charter, the 2002 Constitution, the National Assembly –from 2002 to date.The conference will also discuss the requirements of democracy such as; the principles, values, directions, practice, political path: the people’s participation, powers, political parties, civil society institutions.Experienced elites from inside and outside Bahrain will attend the conference which is aimed to enrich the democratic experience in Bahrain and find appropriate solutions.  /129
