(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society said the people of Bahrain will continue the patriotic struggle they had begun since the independence of Bahrain before 42 years. The Bahrainis seek to establish a democratic state of justice and equality where the people are “the source of all powers” as stated in the constitution, the National Charter and the international treaties Bahrain is part of. The people must exercise their right to approve the constitution and freely elect the legislative and executive authorities.Between 14th August 1971 and 14th August 2013; is more than four decades of marginalization, oppression, monopoly of power and decision, corruption, looting of national wealth and violation of human rights. The Bahrainis have made huge sacrifices for the democratic transition they demand.Bahrain did gain independence from foreign mandate, but has not yet gained independence from the hegemony of a group that dominates and uses power and wealth against dissidents demanding democracy.Bahrain has witnessed a new uprising every decade. Sadly, hundreds were victimized and tens of thousands suffered from the authoritarian policy which is depriving the people their right to peaceful transfer of power.Permanent stability can only be achieved through a democratic system that is based on partnership in decision-making and fair opportunity based on citizenship and redistribution.Celebrating Independence Day in Bahrain raises questions on whether the Authority in Bahrain has achieved anything at all over the past period. The Bahrainis have seen only exclusion and discrimination, however they are determined to achieve their rights through the peaceful and civilized movement.Radical and inclusive reform is inevitable in Bahrain. On the other hand, the suppressive security approach is no solution and has only resulted in a deep human rights crisis. Bahrain needs a big political project that changes the current tyrannical situation to a democratic one.The demands raised by the people of Bahrain are legitimate and for the good of the national interest. These demands are included in the Manama Document and they are as follows:- An elected government in place of the assigned government, and that is questioned before a full-authority legislative council which gives and revokes confidence from the government.- A fair electoral system as per the international principle, one voice for each citizen, and that is overseen by an agreed upon independent national body.- An elected legislative authority which enjoys full monitoring and legislating power.- An independent, neutral and qualified judicial authority.- Diversified security forces by allowing all Bahrainis to serve in the security apparatuses which must be reformed to protect and respect the rights of citizens. Finally, the peaceful demands movement is a legitimate one and the people must not be deprived their right to express opinion through legitimate methods at all times and anywhere as stated in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights./129
