Senior Nigerian Shia cleric calls for cautions when translating the holy Qur'an

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The Leader of the Shiite Islamic Movement in Nigeria Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky said Qur’an is guidance to the Believers as stated in the holy book.

He explained that Qur’an only guides those that have firm belief and are God conscious. He made the explanation during the closing of Ramadan Tafsir on Sunday the 27th of Ramadan 1434 (4/8/13) at Husainiyyah Baqiyyatullah Zaria.

He further stated that Qur’an addresses  individual directly and whoever thinks that Qur’an addresses other people cannot benefit from it teachings.

On understanding the message of the Qur’an Sheikh Zakzaky said Qur’an and Itrah (Ahlulbayt (AS)) are inseparable and the message of the Qur’an can only be understood through them. Following either Qur’an alone or Ahlulbayt alone would only lead person astray because the Prophet said they are equal and inseparable.

He expressed with dismay on the rampant Qur’anic translation by clerics each going a different direction.  He warned that everyone should be very careful as Qur’an is God’s message and translating its message base on unguided opinion will lead person astray.

Sheikh Zakzaky further expressed that The Qur’an and the teachings of the Prophet (SAWA) remains intact with Ahlulbayt (AS) as the Ummah is commanded to hold to the teachings of  both the Qur’an and Ahlulbayt (AS) for guidance.
