Bahrain regime protects torturers in defiance to international institutions

Circulated footage showed the current Prime Minister of Bahrain assuring an officer, who is accused of torturing detainees, that “the law cannot be applied to him” and thanking him for his “good work”.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Circulated footage showed the current Prime Minister of Bahrain assuring an officer, who is accused of torturing detainees, that “the law cannot be applied to him” and thanking him for his “good work”.Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society in Bahrain said that this is a message from the regime to the international community that the authority is supporting the culture of impunity and the law is only used to persecute dissidents. This is an honest and direct statement made by the top official in the illegitimate government, al-Wefaq added.Al-Wefaq stated that this is a dangerous official declaration admitting that state institutions, including the judiciary, are not independent, but rather cosmetic tools.  The people of Bahrain have long raised the demand for an independent and impartial judiciary. The behavior and practices of the regime reveal the fact that the absence of state, and that the country is run by a tribal doctrine which has long deprived the people their rights. The tribal rule does not recognize the people’s rights or law and institutions. Thus, the Bahraini people have suffered decades of torture, lootings, marginalization and exclusion. However, the people reject the current Government that made the homeland pay a high price of its security, future and wealth.Al-Wefaq added that the behavior of the authority’s top officials endorses the systematic torture and the culture of impunity that has turned Bahrain into” the capital of torture”. This indicates that the current Government that has failed to appropriately run the country cannot stay in rule.Al-Wefaq stressed that no Government in the world allows crimes and violations to be perpetrated in bright day light and with official support. This outlines what was mentioned in the Bassiouni report regarding the involvement of state officials in violations and disabling of the law.Al-Wefaq pointed out that the video footage that showed the Prime Minister besides an officer accused of torturing Bahraini medics as a revenge for their treatment of injured protesters is a heavy scandal. It verifies that the violations against the people of Bahrain cannot be perpetrated without orders from senior officials, Al-Wefaq added. The official open support to these violations and inhumane practices are a result of the deliberate and meant freezing of the law, the unfair trials and the directed judiciary. This footage has confirmed that the current Government is an illegitimate Government of corruption and violations that cannot rule the country.Al-Wefaq stresses that this footage is a clear message to the international community and the regime’s allies, that the roles of laws and institutions are completely absent in Bahrain and the laws are not applies to the royal family members and torturers and human rights violators. The statements made in the footage reveal the official manner towards such a sensitive issue like torture and the use of power and law to circumvent the international community and hold on to tyranny and dictatorship.Al-Wefaq stressed that the authority’s policy of impunity has reassured torturers despite medical reports of detainees that confirmed injuries from torture. This is, along with the acquittals of killers of martyrs by political decisions. However, this all illustrates only part of the vengeful campaign that lacks humanity and civilization.Video: Bahrain prime minister tells torturer: “you are above the law”http://youtu.be/SCsFlgnFrbg/129
