(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Mohammad Ali Basiri, an expert in Africa affairs, made the remark in an interview with IQNA, adding that Morsi’s government set the ground for the activity of Takfiris in Egypt and the removal of Morsi from power has dealt a serious blow to the status of Takfiris not only in Egypt but also in Syria and even Iraq. He further referred to the Egyptian army’s statement that it will not interfere in the power transition after the overthrow of Morsi, saying that if the army remains faithful to its promise and the way is paved for the coming of a popular government, Islamists’ victory in Egypt’s elections is likely. The Isfahan University professor said if the army seeks to stay in power, however, it would mean a farewell to democracy in Egypt. Pointing to relations between Iran and Egypt, he said Morsi during his one year in office did not move in the direction to develop ties with Iran. He went on to say that Morsi’s government, despite being Islamists, did not take steps to improve relations with Tehran and failed to fulfill the demands of the revolutionaries who sought the closure of Israeli embassy in Cairo and reducing ties with the West.End item/ 149
