Al-Azhar Condemns Killing of 4 Shiite Muslims in Egypt as a Major Sin

Al-Azhar is extremely troubled while following, with much concern, the (news of) the bloody incident that took place in the village of Zawiyat Abu Misllam, Giza, which lead, in a serious precedent, to the death and mutilation of 4 citizens.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - In response to the killing of 4 Shiite people in an Egyptian village near capital Cairo yesterday, Al-Azhar released the following statement, condemning the crime:

Al-Azhar is extremely troubled while following, with much concern, the (news of) the bloody incident that took place in the village of Zawiyat Abu Misllam, Giza, which lead, in a serious precedent, to the death and mutilation of 4 citizens.

Al-Azhar emphasizes that this act [Killing of Shia Muslims] is a major sin and one of the most grievous violations prohibited by Islam, punishable by law and banned by the constitution.

Al-Azhar also affirms the sanctity of life. Islam, Egypt and the Egyptian society never accept Killing on the bases of faith, sect, or thought.

This is an alien practice that is meant to disturb the stability of the nation at this critical moment and to drag us to turmoil which we should be aware of, people and government alike.

In addition, Al-Azhar reminds (people) about the Prophet's hadith stating that When two Muslims confront each other with their swords, both the slayer and the slain are doomed to Hell-Fire.

Al-Azhar, further, demands the concerned authorities to start a prompt investigation about the incident and to enforce the harshest punishment against anyone proven guilty. Al-Azhar stresses the necessity of deeply rooting the rule of law through referring any conflict to justice.
