Better Coverage of Int’l Quranic Events Urged

There is lack of a unified policy for Muslim world media about covering international Quranic events, an Algerian Quran activist said.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Kamal Qudah urged that Muslim world media should endeavor to better cover such events. The Quran sciences and interpretation scholar who served as a juror at the 30th International Quran Competition of the Islamic Republic of Iran said such international contests gather people around the Quran and enhance Islamic unity. He said in Iran’s Quranic event, Muslims, whether Arab or non-Arab, Shia or Sunni, from around the world came together and demonstrated Islamic unity and solidarity. Mr. Qudah praised the good coverage of Iran’s Quran competition in different media and said the media can show the beautiful unity existing in the Muslim Ummah. He said people should know that all Muslim countries like Iran, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, etc, pay special attention to Quranic programs. “If the international Quran competitions are covered only by the media of the host country, only the people of that country can benefit from the influential Quranic event.” Elsewhere in his remarks, the Algerian Quran expert compared the jury panels of international Quran competitions in Iran and other Muslim countries, saying that in Iran’s event, several judges assess the performance of the participants in different areas such as Tajweed, Sowt, Lahn, and memorization, which guarantees more transparency in judgments. He also described the level of Iran’s 30th International Quran Competition as high and said the contenders were mostly at the same level. Asked about his own Quranic activities, Kamal Qudah said he has served as a jury member in several international Quranic contests in Muslim countries. He added that he serves as a supervisor in a large Quranic school named Al-Bayan in southeast Algeria. Concluding his remarks, Mr. Qudah hoped that God will help Muslims to uphold unity and stand up against the enemies. The 30th edition of Iran’s international Quran contest was held in Tehran from May 31 to June 7 with the participation of Quran memorizers and reciters from over 70 countries.End item/ 149
